When Paul Tunkin, promoter of long-running mod/soul/freakbeat club Blow Up, was granted access to the KPM catalogue, he found himself inside a musical goldmine. KPM specialised in "library music": all-purpose instrumental tracks composed in the Sixties and Seventies for use on television shows and commercials, often led by a Hammond organ, with titles such as "Powerful Rhythmic Theme - Brass Featured - Building Middle Section", and crying out for terms like "swinging" and "groovy".
