When Paul first moved to London he shared a flat with a couple who had a passion for dubious narcotics. Even if it was 90 degrees outside, he'd get home to find the curtains drawn, the electric fire going full blast and his f***ed-up flatmates asleep on the sofa with their winter coats on. His belief in swinging London was shattered. At least in Southend, where he'd DJed for years, there was some kind of scene, but London, well London was just going nowhere. His solution was to start a club called Londinium, which is now known from Tooting to Tokyo as Blow Up; a paragon of mod cool and pop passion.
'Until Blow Up started, London had only been swinging with a noose round its neck'
