London's style junkies have an attitude problem. They don't like fashion victims and that's what most of us are. The Big Issue visits the haunts of the hardcore mods, punks and goths. Some have travelled from as far afield as Southend to come to Blow Up, a friendly, crowded club at The Laurel Tree in Camden, described by one of its DJs, Paul, as "a Nineties swinging London vibe". It's also a grunge-free zone. The teenage mods at Blow Up say that they've donned their tailored suits and leather loafers as a reaction to grunge. They echo the original Sixties mods who started out as a reaction to the greasy, leather-clad rockers. "It's a rebellion against looking scruffy," says Chris, 18, who's wearing a dark suit, collar and tie in what must be nearly 90° heat. "If there's lots of you going round with long hair looking messy you don't feel different. Dress like this and you always get a second look in the street.
